SPECIAL NOTICE: Watch for the Canada Day collection that will be going up on the OwlGreetings.ca site this weekend!  A second artist, Melissa Lee, has joined the CareerOwl support group and donated a collection of lovely photo art images. Owing to the tremendous popularity of the OwlGreetings service (you people have created and sent more than 50,000 cards by now), we will undertake to make this service available in French as well by this fall.

1. Your Very Own Website (it's easy) -- ASP & SQL -- reseller programs

Canadian Computer Consulting in partnership with CareerOwl is now offering web hosting and/or POP email to individuals.

Those who are not "computer people" can use Frontpage (it comes with Microsoft Office!) to easily design your own website.  If you know how to use a word processor, you can have your very own website online in a matter of minutes!

For advanced users we offer ASP and optional SQL access, a reseller program for your customers, and completely configurable email and website options.  We're a small company, here to serve your needs.

2.         Work-at-Home Opportunities: A Jobseeker Advisory

Work at home opportunities can be great ways to supplement your income, but these positions do not always live up to their billing.

Sometimes companies state that they have jobs, but to obtain any information about them or how to apply you must first purchase information reports. If a company really is looking for good people needed right then, why would they delay the recruitment process by making you first request, pay for, and presumably read an information package? Maybe they just want you to be better informed about their industry, in case perhaps it isn’t one you would have considered without learning more about it first. Maybe they are just trying to stop you from making an overly hasty “not interested” decision while at the same time not wanting to spend time on their side dealing with applicants who really aren’t interested even after learning more, and are off loading much of the cost of getting you to consider this choice more carefully onto you, the jobseeker, by coaxing you into buying an information package that will help you make a more informed choice. Some of these opportunities may actually be worthwhile, but realize that what you’re paying your money for, if you bite, is an information package on a yet to be disclosed sort of work. This isn’t like paying a headhunter to try to set you up for job openings of the sort that you’ve said you were interested in. Once you purchase these reports the jobs may not materialize.

Other times a legitimate job opening is available right then, but the job ad does not properly inform you about the nature of the job. For instance, a company may advertise itself as offering jobs in customer service or elder care or financial services when really they are looking for someone to do telemarketing and are using the job title or description just to try to get people to apply who have types of backgrounds they are interested in.

Make sure you fully understand the situation before you get involved with these sorts of opportunities, and be aware of the risks involved. If these companies discourage you from asking for more information about what they offer, you may wish to steer clear of them.

Stay tuned for CareerOwl’s special feature on quality work at home opportunities, coming soon.
